• After you fill in the blanks or select query options, you will be shown the number of matches you requested, with a score showing how closely they matched your query. A score of 100 is given to the best match.

  Enter words that match your interests. Separate words with spaces.

  EXAMPLE:
  biodiversity tropical forests treaty

  selects films that contain any or all of the four words. films that contain more of the words will have a higher score than films that contain fewer of the words.
  • Separating words with or is the same as separating them with spaces.
  • You may separate two words with and, if you wish to see only those films that contain both words.
  • If you separate two words with not, you will be shown films that contain the first word, but not the second word.

• If you do not know the complete spelling or ending of a word you are searching for, you may end a word with '*'.

  EXAMPLE:
  water and africa and pol* not zambia

  selects films about the politics of water in africa, excluding Zambia.

• If you wish to see only those films that contain two adjacent words, separate the two words with adj.

  EXAMPLE:
  tropical adj forests

  selects films about tropical forests, but not films that only mention tropical and forests in separate contexts.

• You can use parentheses to group expressions. Grouping makes your query more explicit and allows you to perform more sophisticated searches.

  EXAMPLE:
  (tropical adj forests) and (biodiversity or treat*)

  selects films about tropical forests that also mention something about biodiversity or treaties.

• If the database can be searched by fields, you may do this by typing the field name, then an = followed by a query enclosed in parentheses.

  EXAMPLE:
  subject=(tropical adj forests)

  selects films which contain tropical forests in the subject field.

• Field searches can be mixed with regular searches.

  EXAMPLE:
  ( subject=(tropical adj forests) ) and biodiversity

  selects films which contain tropical forests in the subject field and mention biodiversity anywhere in the document.
