Burnt Toast

Eight comedic mini-operas, each depicting a different stage of a romantic relationship.

"A laugh-filled treat...Not just for opera fans." Now Magazine

BURNT TOAST is comprised of a series of eight comedic mini-operas, each depicting a different stage of a romantic relationship set in contemporary settings. With original music and libretti, each vignette is a self-contained story, but together they work as a cohesive single piece. The relationships are of all types: the passionate, the fantasized, the bored and of course, the dead relationship.

An opera program that actually appeals to a wide general audience, BURNT TOAST is the brainchild of the same team that created "Toothpaste", the five-minute domestic opera that has been screened throughout the world and showered with international prizes.

Reviews
"The entire process of love, pain and the whole damn thing is uniquely played out in the mock-opera, Burnt Toast...TV is rarely this good...Weinstein's established visual style...is applied here...with striking effect."

The (Toronto) Globe and Mail

"Inspired...Composed by Alexina Louie, with a playfully ironic libretto from Dan Redican, the comedia opera features a virtual Who's Who of Canadian actors -- Paul Gross, Colm Feore, Colin Machirie, Leah Pinsent, Cathy Jones, Mark McKinney among others -- lip-synching their way through the melodie madness."
Toronto Star

"A laugh-filled treat...Not just for opera fans."
Now Magazine

"Burnt Toast is a somewhat unusual and brave release from Bullfrog Films...thrilling...Create[s] the interest to listen to more. What else could anyone ask of contemporary opera? A Highly Recommended purchase for all libraries."
