The last stretch of Holland's North Sea coast to be left unprotected by their formidable system of dikes was the Eastern Scheldt Delta, home to thousands of species of marine life and an important wintering ground for birds. Concerned that a conventional dike would destroy the area's tidal ecology, fishermen, environmentalists and citizens mounted a campaign to create a "dike with doors," to close only when storms threaten floods.
Lynn Redgrave is the on-camera host for this fourth program in a unique series which focuses on solutions to environmental problems, and provides viewers with ideas and inspiration for their own homes and communities.
