For over 40 years John Livingston has worked on behalf of the natural world. In this beautifully photographed program he examines the ideology that humanity has adopted to rationalize its selfish use of nature. He explores the roots of the ecological movement and exposes some disturbing trends in modern environmentalism. Livingston argues, for example, that today's sustainable development is yesterday's resource management conservation - with commercial expansionism thrown in. He pleads instead for recognition of the intrinsic worth of nature, and worries that developing children may start to identify not with life, but with technological tools--Nintendo, ergo sum.

Reviews: "The program is visually and aurally beautiful, with striking images and sounds of a variety of life forms and habitats. Livingston's observations are critical toward what he terms a 'human-centered orthodoxy,' and the idea that we have conceptually separated ourselves from nature, as the 'chosen species.'...Given the high quality of the production values and the solid presentation of the subject matter, John Livingston is recommended for public, school, and undergraduate academic library collections."
