Vic and Betsy Sussman demonstrate a new method of gardening in raised beds, which produces high yields, and conserves space and water. They take us through the gardening season -- from laying out and double digging the beds in spring, to extending fall crops.
In addition, we visit Peter Chan's exquisite garden in Portland, Oregon; Leandre and Gretchen Poisson's homestead in New Hampshire where they have built some ingenious "solar pods" for extending short growing seasons; and John Jeavons of Ecology Action in Palo Alto, California, who has done the pioneering work in documenting the yields, and water and energy requirements of raised bed gardens. With Raised Bed Gardening Guide.
