Vic and Betsy Sussman demonstrate a new method of gardening in raised beds, which produces high yields, and conserves space and water. They take us through the gardening season -- from laying out and double digging the beds in spring, to extending fall crops.
In addition, we visit Peter Chan's exquisite garden in Portland, Oregon; Leandre and Gretchen Poisson's homestead in New Hampshire where they have built some ingenious "solar pods" for extending short growing seasons; and John Jeavons of Ecology Action in Palo Alto, California, who has done the pioneering work in documenting the yields, and water and energy requirements of raised bed gardens.
