Subtitle: Impressions of Fritz Schumacher
28 minutes/Grades 7-Adult
Produced by the National Film Board of Canada
A warm portrait of E. F. Schumacher, the noted British
economist, who, in his book of the same name, was the first to
make the case for decentralized, small scale technology, and local
human economies. We visit Schumacher at home in the English
countryside, and also at a huge, polluting phosphorus plant and an
abandoned oil refineryP vivid examples of the kind of wrong-headed
economic thinking he made it his life's work to combat.
Awards: American Film Festival; World Future Society Conference;
Melbourne International Film Festival; Flaherty Film Seminar

classic with many environmental lessons." Green Gems: The
