OWL/TV

60 videocassettes (6 series of 10) 29 minutes each/Grades 2-7

Produced by the Young Naturalist Foundation

OWL/TV is a nature and science series packed with answers to
the questions kids have about the world and filled with the
delight of discovery and the spirit of invention. OWL/TV
encourages learning through active involvement. Children will
enjoy OWL/TV's imaginative approach to a wide range of subjects
including animals, science, experiments, their bodies, the future
and especially how they can have a beneficial impact on their own
environment. It encourages scientific literacy while developing
children's skills in language, comprehension, grouping,
manipulating data, and problem solving. Each half-hour program
contains segments chosen from several recurring features:

Mighty Mites are three kids who possess the magical ability to
shrink in size in order to explore microscopic environments.

Animals Close Up explores various aspects of animal life. Kids
meet the animals first-hand and conduct on-the-spot interviews
with zoologists and experts on animal behavior.

Tomorrow Today looks at the future from a kid's point-of-view,
bringing children into working laboratories where things-to-come
are being planned.

Real Kids features young people who are actively involved in
trying to improve their environment. These are kids who aren't
afraid to try. Real Kids nurtures the idea that individuals of any
age can make a difference.

You and Your Body is a drama segment in which kids learn about
themselves with the aid of a wise and witty skeleton named
Bonapart.

Bonapart shares his enthusiasm for individual action on behalf
of the environment.

Dr. Zed explores the connections between nature and science and
shows kids exciting experiments.

The Hoot Club kids set up and work through a project, solving
production/performance problems, experimenting with materials,
interacting with their community and environment.

Linking these segments are quick games, puzzles and jokes to
delight and challenge the viewer.
