Produced by Dr. Kay T. Dodge for Center for Environmental
Studies and Grand Rapids Public Schools
HOT POTATO is a humorous yet provocative treatment of the waste
management dilemma. Waste producer, disposer, and policy-maker are
all enacted by mimes who approach and avoid the responsibility for
getting rid of the "hot potato." HOT POTATO explores concepts of:
waste generation, shared responsibility, incineration, land
disposal, groundwater contamination, regulation and "red tape." As
a non-verbal representation of our society's handling of its
waste, HOT POTATO offers a broad range of uses for audiences, in
classrooms and community groups.
Awards: 1st Place, Grand Rapids Arts Festival
- "With old-fashioned title screens, sped-up footage, and
occasional audio effects, the skillfully visualized environmental
presentation effectively uses humor to provoke discussion about a
problem that needs to be resolved." Booklist
- "Recommended." Landers
- "An excellent, imaginative allegorical film, wide open to
interpretation, discussion, and hopefully the generation of some
ideas on how to solve the problems of waste disposal. Can be used
with all ages and all interest groups." ***** Video Rating Guide
