59 minutes/Grades 7-Adult
Produced by Asterisk Productions/A film by David Springbett &
Heather MacAndrew
A wonderful portrait of three teenagers coming of age in the
Third World, the film chronicles change in their lives and
communities. The young people -- Bikas from Nepal, Michael from
Kenya, and Patsy from St. Vincent in the Caribbean -- were filmed
when they were 12 years old and again at 18.
All three were touched in some way by an international
development project. Has the aid helped? Will it give them more
chance in planning their future?
Their goals and dreams are not so different from those of North
American teenagers: a job, a family, and a home of their own. All
see education as the key to improving their futures.
But for education to be effective, it must be integrated with
fundamental economic and social change; change that would affect
us all. In many ways the Third World is closer than we think... as
close as next door.
Awards: Silver Apple, National Education Film & Video Festival;
Certificate of Merit, Chicago International Film Festival;

- "An excellent resource... The role of such aid and how it
affects life is well demonstrated. From it we can get a clearer
sense of the problems of north and south in today's world."
Anglican Journal
