45 minutes/Grades 8 -Adult Computer Software Package Teacher

This is a unique set of integrated resource materials which
provides teachers with a complete teaching package for grades 8-12
on the vitally important subject of energy. With this innovative
resource, teachers and students can enjoy a wide range of
stimulating activities in energy studies. Its contents are
interdisciplinary so it can be used in Science, Industrial Arts,
Environmental Education, and Social Studies curricula.
There are five lesson units:
Subtitle: 1. Introduction to Energy
2. Solar Energy
3. Biomass Energy
4. Wind, Water and Geothermal Energy
5. Energy and the Future
Students will be motivated by problem solving, experimenting
and discussion of social and environmental issues. They can design
and construct a wide (and well-tested) range of both simple and
complex models. Easy to follow plans are provided. This is a first
in the energy education field, and it's a bargain at the priceP
thanks to the generous support of the National Energy Foundation,
the U.S. Export Council for Renewable Energy and Bullfrog Films.
The package consists of:
P 45-minute Video introducing each of the five units.
P 350-page Teacher Resource Guide with background notes, lesson
plans, worksheets, detailed model plans.
P Computer Software Package called "The Autonomous House,"
which allows students to explore the impact of different energy
systems, house designs and domestic energy use, and to create
their own renewable energy powered house. The software package
includes User's Guide, Teacher Notes, and Apple II or DOS
software.
P The Energy File, comprehensive fact sheets covering all
aspects of renewable and non-renewable energy sources.
P Posters.
