A film by Helene Bourgault
On the eve of the 21st century, more than ever people are
searching for a meaning to life. The dreams of this century
lie in tatters. In the East, the dream of a better world
based on sharing: in the West the dream of happiness in a
consumer paradise.
In their search for meaning, scientists since Descartes have
been busy dissecting the universe, but when they finally
reached the atom, all their certainties were shattered.
TToday science seems to be reuniting what it struggled so long
to divide.
Indeed as the century ends, scientists, philosophers, and
artists are converging on a holistic view of the universe as a
more accurate paradigm.
Amongst those interviewed in this thought-provoking
exploration are geneticist Albert Jacquard, psychologist
Denise Roussel, filmmaker/writer and Zen Buddhist Fernand
Dansereau, and astrophysicist Sven Ortoli.
Also in this originally French-language production, a
charismatic tortoise, whose observations pepper the film with
wit and wisdom, acts as the guardian and conscience of the
Earth.
