The construction and maintenance of centralized wastewater
treatment plants use up enormous amounts of money, energy, raw
materials and fresh water, and it's still not possible to
purify the wastewater properly. For his home near Lake
Geneva, physicist Pierre Lehmann has designed a composting
toilet, and cleanses his wastewater in a pond where water
plants and billions of microbes remove impurities.
