Produced by Nicholas Claxton for Central Independent Television
Presented and narrated by Bob Geldof
Next to killing them, the worst thing you can do to a people is
force them to move. This hard-hitting film investigates three huge
resettlement schemes in India, Indonesia, and Brazil -- all
sponsored by the World Bank, the world's largest lending
institution. Some thirty billion dollars in grants and loans is
provided each year by development banks and other institutions to
Third World countries, frequently for mega projects that involve
uprooting indigenous peoples. That's 300 times the amount raised
by Band Aid. Using the World Bank's own documents the film
analyzes the social, environmental and economic costs of some of
the bank's lending policies.

- "The information presented here is staggering and thought-
provoking ... THE PRICE OF PROGRESS is timely, revealing, and
hard-hitting... Everyone of voting age and above would do well to
watch this videotape." **** Video Rating Guide
- "This film provides an excellent survey of Bank policies by
allowing critics and defenders alike ample opportunity to
express their conflicting viewpoints." Landers
- "Quite persuasive in its argument that the interests of big
business are being placed before the true economic, sociological,
and ecological repercussions of the numerous Third World projects
financed by the World Bank. A disturbing film. Highly
recommended." Video Librarian
