Produced by the National Film Board of Canada Director/Animator
Les Drew
A warm animated adaptation by Les Drew of Helen Levchuk's book
about a caring, grandmotherly figure, Doris Dingle, and her three
delightful cats: Donna, DeeDee, and Dayoh. Suddenly a ferocious
storm bursts violently into the family's idyllic life. Young
children will marvel at the storm's intensity, then sigh with
relief to see everybody safe and secure.
THE DINGLES brims with sparkling colors, singular characters
that children can relate to, languid sunshine and warm friendship,
sudden adventure and suspense, a happy ending and just good fun.
THE DINGLES is a great discussion starter for programs by
librarians, teachers, and guidance counselors to discuss
friendship and trust, security, and dealing with a crisis. With
Guide.

- "Against the backdrop of the marvelously animated storm, Doris
Dingle rallies to save her 'children' from the ferocious elements
in a determined, albeit comic, way. Fun and funny, this winner
from NFB is highly recommended." Video Librarian
- "A fine musical background accompanies the lively narration,
which helps to make this production an exceptionally entertaining
and refreshing experience. At the same time, THE DINGLES could
also be a way into a child's world and a starting point for a
discussion about sharing feelings and pinpointing those to whom
one would turn in a crisis. Many children who have undergone
natural or personal disasters can be reassured by watching this
video... Every cat lover... will succumb to the charm of the
delightful animation." **** Video Rating Guide
- "A charming tale noted for its bright, delightfully drawn
animations and winsome, whimsical characters. Highly recommended."
Landers
- "Absolutely delightful. Beautifully animated. Kids from 2 to
102 will love this." AFVA Evaluations
